Gulf Weekly Sale at ‘house of good causes’

Thoughtful gifts donated by kind-hearted GulfWeekly readers during the ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan’ community campaign will be turned into cash at the Awali Thrift Shop in Bapco compound this Saturday.

Opened by the Awali Ladies Hospitality Group (ALHG), the shop gathered donations collected during the City Centre Ramadan Drive and will now sell them off at bargain prices to generate funds to support charitable organisations in the kingdom such as Helping Hands, Bahrain Mobility, BSPCA, RIA, Hope Institute and Bahrain Cancer Society.

ALHG chairperson Lynda Smith, whose husband Gordon is Bapco’s chief executive, said: “It is indeed an honour to be a part of such a worthwhile organisation. The ladies who help to make the Awali Thrift Shop possible work extremely hard and although I have only recently become actively involved with them, I am most impressed with their tireless enthusiasm and dedication.

“I wish the organisation continual success and would appreciate any form of support to help this small group of caring ladies. Of course, we are always delighted to welcome new faces to the group and hope that this event will encourage others to become more involved.”

The thrift shop is known as ‘the house of good causes’ and is situated at 509B in the oil company’s compound. Donated by Bapco, the home is also maintained free of cost and run by volunteers.

The shop will feature a range of items from books to bags, shoes, clothes, household goods and children’s games for sale. The Awali Ladies recently donated BD1,000 to Somalia as a token amount and aims to aid more charities from its earnings.

Everything for sale in the shop is priced between 100 fils to BD2 and doors will open on Saturday from 8am to 2pm. Donations of household goods, books, clothes are always needed and can be delivered to the shop during opening hours or by calling Rose on 39058982 to make alternative arrangements.
