Gulf Weekly Loughnane edges Diaper to claim Seniors trophy

John Loughnane was the overall winner of the Seniors competition firing a fine nett 65 (gross 73), which included no less than three birdies, at Awali Golf Club.

The event, which took place in perfect conditions on Saturday, was open to club members over the age of 50 and was played in medal format.

Kerry Diaper, playing in the event for the first time, finished as runner-up with a fantastic nett 66 (gross 98).
Club veteran and former seniors champion Pete Rogers, who played his first nine holes in 34 strokes (one under par), had to struggle on the back nine but finished with a nett 66 (gross 75) to claim third place.

In the side contests, Ahmed Al Noami finished closest to the pin on the 4th hole whilst committee member David Spittal claimed closest to the pin on the 6th hole.

At the prize presentation, Loughnane was presented with the walking stick-shaped trophy by Club Captain David Bailey and, in traditional style, was pushed around the clubhouse in a wheelchair.
