PLUCKY Woolwich Arsenal suffered an agonising 3-4 defeat at the hands of RCSI after being forced to field only four players in a thrilling Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League clash.
Arsenal Captain Rama Salem, who bagged a goal, led a team depleted as a result of players being delayed by demonstrations, against a full strength seven-a-side opposition. Salem said: ìIt was a very interesting game and we put up quite a fight. It was a struggle as we were down three players giving the other side an advantage.
ìWe had the determination especially in the second half. We simply screwed our heads on and we wanted it more than anything else, particularly as the other team showed us no mercy or sympathy and it made the game more exciting.î Meanwhile, Arsenal Dial Square beat Eastern Flames 6-2 in an entertaining game of flowing football.
Arsenal midfielder Samantha Turner grabbed four goals with Keilan Kabalaoui and Hiba Skaini nabbing one each.
Flames forward Amy Goodwright put on a sterling show too, bagging a brace. Arsenal senior coach Deena Rahman admitted that despite the score-line it was a close affair.
The young Royal Arsenal team took on the more experienced St Christopher’s Senior’s and were trounced 6-0.
On Monday evening RCSI played Joga Bonito; Eastern Flames took on the U16 National Bahrain team, Royal Arsenal went up against Arsenal Dial Square and Woolwich Arsenal challenged St Christopher’s Senior’s.
