MARWAN was at his wits end when his Husky dog, Leo, disappeared from his home in Amwaj.
He had left Leo in the secure back garden because it was hot in the house whilst he nipped out to get something to eat. Living in a quiet area he didn’t think it would be a problem as there was no way the dog could escape.
On his return 30 minutes later he found that Leo had vanished and he searched the entire area hoping that somehow Leo had merely gone for a wander but there was no sign of him anywhere. In desperation Marwan and his friends posted details of the missing dog on the BSPCA’s Facebook page.
As luck would have it, a couple of days later Leo was seen, looking lonely and very hungry, tied to a post outside a lady’s house in Mahooz. She noticed that there was nobody nearby seemingly caring for him. After keeping an eye on the animal for a while she decided that it would be better to take the dog to the BSPCA Shelter than leave it there where it clearly did not belong.
Meanwhile, the shelter staff were checking the BSPCA Facebook page and saw the photo of Leo. As a Husky had been brought into the shelter they checked the dog’s admittance photo against the one posted to see if it was the same. The photo appeared much darker than the white-faced Husky they had at the shelter but, after using the scanner they found the dog was microchipped and so was able to contact Marwan with the news.
Marwan and his wife rushed straight to Shakoora to collect Leo and just to make sure there was absolutely no doubt about proof of ownership Marwan not only brought all Leo’s papers with him, but also the dog’s first tooth which he had kept!
When Leo was led into the shelter office he was ecstatic at seeing his owners and jumped all over them. In fact, he was so happy he wouldn’t sit still to get a good photo! And, of course, both Marwan and his wife were obviously delighted to see their beloved pet returned to them unharmed.
All-in-all a great day for all at the shelter, especially as Marwan donated BD100 as a thank you to the society. Everyone loves a happy tale and this certainly was a good start to the month for the BSPCA! This is proof that it pays to have your animal micro-chipped so that in the event it goes missing or is stolen there is a way to identify the owner.
So please, please, please, if you care about your pet microchip it and we will be able to reunite you quickly. It doesn’t cost much and is so very important.
