AMERICAN automotive giant Ford launched the new Focus model at a ceremony at Bahrain City Centre last weekend, writes Charlie Holding.

The unveiling by YK Almoayyed, the marque’s distributor in the kingdom, took place in the presence of company officials and spectators who flocked to get a glimpse of the model.

Almoayyed Motors general manager Sandeep Mathur said: ìWe’re really pleased to introduce yet another outstanding version of the Ford Focus, a nameplate that has enjoyed great popularity with our Bahraini customers.

'The new 2012 Focus builds on the great heritage the model has in terms of performance and responsiveness, quality and safety while sporting a dynamic, sporty look.'

Its makers say the new Focus is like no other car in its class and provides customers with an unprecedented level of technology that enhances comfort, convenience and safety.

Ford Middle East’s marketing director Paul Anderson said: ìThe new Ford Focus features class-exclusive cutting-edge innovations creating a remarkable car.

'Drivers of the all-new Ford Focus will benefit from a more enjoyable ownership and driving experience thanks to the latest technologies that the new model boasts.'

The new Focus has two engine sizes available, the 2.0-litre Ti-VCT I-4 Duratec engine and the 1.6-litre Ti-VCT Duratec.
A new feature to make its way to the Focus is the standard Torque Vectoring Control system which enhances cornering stability and agility.

Other features include Electronic Power Assist Steering, Electronic Stability Programme, Anti-Lock Braking  with Electronic Brake force Distribution and Corner Brake Control as well as a Traction Control System and Brake Lock Differential.
