Bahrain-based artist Marianne Pasman’s latest exhibition has taken pole position at the Capital Club after being inspired by the return of Formula One.

The Dutch 42-year-old from Saar is known for her expressive, evocative artistic style and textured canvases that she designs through the use of a palette knife. Marianne has held seven solo and joint exhibitions. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in product design from the Fine Art Academy in Maastricht in the Netherlands.

Her Mood exhibition combines the dynamic energy of Formula One with the exuberant colours of nature to form a collection of racy abstract landscape paintings.

She said: “I have not conducted an exhibition since then end of 2009 and have been painting new small and large canvasses with a palette knife, all quite strong in colour and theme.

“Formula One was the inspiration behind this exhibition. I support any initiative in Bahrain that is constructive, available to all people and entertaining.

“F1 is the biggest motoring event on Bahrain’s annual sporting calendar. I love the energy it exudes as well as the colours - such as the Ferrari red which you can see in my Autumn Symphony II piece.

“I completely let loose with different colours. I used acid colours, fluorescents, gold and metallics to create rich paintings.

“The paintings are themed around nature, for example, palm trees – the light bounces off the leaves and trees.”

Mood will be featured at the Capital Club until the end of April and it is open to the public.

The paintings are on sale and range in price between BD150 to BD1,800 and 10 per cent of each work sold will be donated to the Bahrain Society for Women’s Development, an organisation which has helped shape and rebuild the lives of many women in the community.

Aside from painting, Marianne also teaches private and group art classes. For further details on the artist and her exhibition, contact marianne.pasmans@gmail.com
