The Dark Knight Rises actor Gary Oldman has signed up to star in MGM’s remake of the classic science-fiction movie, Robocop.
Jose Padilha is directing the film, which is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman.
The original film, starring Peter Weller, follows policeman Alex Murphy who is terminally wounded and is reincarnated as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.
Oldman is to play Norton, a scientist who creates the technology that brings Robocop to life.
Murphy is going to be played by The Killing star, Joel Kinnaman.
“They’re still working on the suit and how it’s going to look, but the visor is going to be see-through. You’re going to see his eyes ... Robocop is going to be a lot more human,” Kinnaman said.
With an August 9, 2013 release date looming, the film is apparently looking to start shooting in Toronto in September.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, with Oldman having the Batman trilogy and Harry Potter series under his belt, he has the distinction of being the top-grossing actor of all time.
