COFFEE lovers are being offered the chance to chill out this summer with a new range of iced drinks developed in Bahrain.
And New York Coffee’s (NYC) baristas believe a series of special syrup ingredients will make the beverages taste even better.
The variety of cold blends is designed to keep customers ice cool and revitalised in the heat, they say, and include a variety of caramel macchiatto, iced latte and iced mocha.
Barista Guia Barbaza demonstrated how to prepare the drinks to coffee connoisseurs at the NYC outlet in Adliya last week.
“There are specific syrups that boost the flavours of these new iced coffees,” she explained. “For example, raspberry and peppermint blend very well with the iced mocha, whereas vanilla, hazelnut, caramel and almond go very well with the iced latte. My personal favourite is the hazelnut syrup which brings out the coffee’s full aroma.”
The iced caramel macchiato, however, proved particularly popular at the testing last week. A layer of fresh milk and espresso was topped with caramel sauce and produced a unique bitter and sweet taste combination.
Regular customer Khalid Mohammed from Isa Town said: “It’s perfect because it’s like the hot beverages we have all the time but it so much more drinkable during summer.”
Najeed Saleh from Isa Town said: “I come here all the time so it’s good to see something new. I hope they keep this range all year round. It was very refreshing.”
Hussein Al Saleh from A’ali added: “It’s smart. I had the caramel macchiato; it’s sweet and gives you that little kick!”
NYC claims to produce the freshest brew on the island. The company owns and has now been operating the coffee retailer and its sister roasting plant in Bahrain for more than 10 years.
In addition to its retail operations (NYC can also be found in Government Avenue in Manama, Janibiyah and inside a couple of top bank HQs), its roasting plant in Riffa also supplies freshly-roasted coffee beans and other coffee-related products to 5-star hotels, leading airlines, fine dining restaurants and specialty cafés in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
The new iced coffee refreshments come in two sizes, medium, costing BD1.700 and large for BD1.900.
