British comedy The Inbetweeners was such a big hit on both the big and small-screens across the UK, that the US now wants its own version.

The creators of the show, Ian Morris and Damon Beesley, have been asked to helm the project by Paramount Pictures following the success of the movie in 2011,  which was adapted from the TV series of the same name.

Reports suggest that the US version will be inspired by the British original but will not be a direct remake, with a different cast and a road trip theme.

Reports also indicate that the budget will be around £9.5million which is almost three times the amount used for the original movie, which has not yet been released in the US.

Meanwhile, the US has already signed up for MTV’s Americanised version of the TV show, but the movie should not disappoint die hard fans. With the presence of the original writers, they can still be happy to know the same potty-mouthed humour will be retained.

MTV is set to air the US take on the TV series on August 20.
