And, a sad realisation came over me when I noticed that many individuals in Bahrain don’t seem to appreciate proper nutrition – especially the young.

Due to past family health issues, my diet has always consisted of products that are low-fat, low-calorie, dietary or organic, and I am happy to say that although I sneak in the occasional chocolate bar or packet of crisps, I have little trouble in keeping up a relatively healthy diet.

The same cannot be said for the many overweight and even obese youngsters walking around Bahrain with little idea of proper culinary habits.

It is difficult to criticise them when the problem starts with not having the right information or education on the matter; a subject that should be more stressed in schools and publicly addressed.

Teenagers should be taught from a young age what the appropriate kind of food is, as well as proper eating times and the way to prepare meals.

This is essential to maintain a positive state-of-mind, as well as a healthy lifestyle, especially through the rush of everyday life.
