Recently, a charismatic expat was invited to attend a Ghabga with friends at a popular Japanese restaurant in Seef. To commemorate the occasion he decided to dress up in a crisp white thobe for the first time ever.
His traditional get-up didn’t go unnoticed as it was a big hit during Iftar with his Jordanian in-laws. When he arrived at the restaurant ready to surprise his friends, he was the one that received a surprise. One of the staff members stopped him at the entrance stating that his thobe was not up to the dress code as he wasn’t wearing a ghutra (Arab head dress) and asked him to go home and change.
As he was about to leave several of his multi-cultural friends explained on his behalf and he was finally allowed inside.
So much for keeping the spirit of Ramadan alive?
