Ishan Sameera emerged as Barista of the Year in Costa Coffee’s country finals held at its Moda Mall branch. Among five finalists, the Costa Barista for five years couldn’t hold back his emotions. Ishan, pictured right, exclaimed: “I’m speechless … I can’t believe I am the country’s best barista! It’s amazing to get the chance to represent Costa Coffee Bahrain in the regional finals and then, maybe, be part of the world finals and be Costa’s best barista in the world!”.
Being the best barista in the world is a dream that his fellow colleague, Ace Valino, realised in last year’s international competition, bringing Costa Coffee’s Barista of the Year trophy to Bahrain. “I really want to keep this trophy with us! It will be a remarkable moment in my career”, said Ishan. “I am very happy for Ishan, and I understand how happy he’s feeling right now; it’s a mix of emotions that you just understand when you live this moment”, said Ace.
The best original speciality drink winner was Faul Gonzalez, who was also very excited about having his signature drink representing the country. Faul’s drink, called Arabian Mint Sensation, is a blend of espresso, anis and mint, which awakens the senses: tempting gourmet look, great taste and magic anis smell.
The Barista of the Year competition regional finals will take place next month in Abu Dhabi, where the best barista will be chosen to represent the MENA region in the world finals in London, in October.
