It gives me great pleasure to inform you, that the Al Rashid Group initiative – Beat Diabetes – is all set to roll-out its fourth Walkathon, on Friday, November 9.

The group has always looked for opportunities to contribute to society. Our commitment to corporate social responsibility is not merely about charity, but playing a more responsible part in society, be it within the organisation, towards our stakeholders, environment, society, or the world at large.

Al Rashid Group adopted the Beat Diabetes initiative in 2009 with a focused view to spread awareness about the causes, effects and dangers of this condition. Apart from the millions of people that we reach through our various diabetes awareness programmes, the initiative has directly touched the lives of over 150,000 people across the region.

In 2010 more than 3,000 residents took part in our annual Beat Diabetes Walkathon at Dohat Arad Park, Muharraq, and we successfully conducted free blood glucose tests for more than 5,000 people across the kingdom.

Diabetes cannot be cured, but a person can survive with the condition by making lifestyle changes. Our mission is to educate people about the seriousness of this condition and ways and means of coping with it.

Help! Unfortunately we have lost our educational officer as she has been poached to work at one of the schools and we desperately need a replacement! Are there any ex-teachers out there or ladies who like interacting with children who would like to help us out?

If so please think about volunteering as one of our educational team.

We are seeking an education officer who will contact the schools and organise sessions for the BSPCA personnel to visit and talk to the children about learning to live with and respect animals.

We visit not only the nurseries, but all ages so there are many different ways of imparting the information and educating – from doing an animal hand puppet show for the tiny tots to giving talks and presentations about animals and their welfare for the older students.

We are looking for someone with an interest in both animals and children, plenty of patience, a professional attitude, someone who is able to devise their own schedule for school visits, make their own appointments etc.

KINDLY be reminded that the American Mission Hospital (AMH) and Think Pink Bahrain Walkathon for the breast cancer campaign is on November 3 at the Dohat Arad Walkway.

Registration is 3pm-4pm on the walkway. We look forward to seeing you there. The entry fee is BD2 and it is open to everyone aged 11 and above.

The breast cancer campaign is aimed at the well-being of women who as mothers, wives, daughters and sisters play such an important role in our lives.
 
Let us all get together and support this campaign. This will help us to cover breast cancer screenings for even more women around Bahrain. Timely diagnosis might help us to save the lives of some women which will be a blessing to their families.

 We are already covering several social centres and schools around Bahrain and unfortunately have identified several women who will require further investigations and some who will need to go in for treatment immediately.
