THE General Director of the Capital Governorate Police announced that there were five explosions from homemade bombs in Gudaibiya and Adliya on Monday morning. Two expatriates died as a result of the explosions and a third was seriously injured.

The General Director said that an initial investigation has revealed that an IED (improvised explosive device) exploded when one of the deceased men kicked the device in Gudaibiya.  He died at the scene. The second man was injured in an explosion near the Awal Cinema in Manama and was pronounced dead at the hospital. A third explosion in Adliya seriously injured another man who works as a cleaner.

The General Director called upon all residents of Bahrain not to touch strange objects. If a suspicious object is seen, a call to 999 should immediately be made to report the location.
The Public Prosecution has been notified of the explosions and an investigation has been launched to bring those responsible to justice.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the police hotline at 80008008. All calls are treated as anonymous.

WITH reference to your recent coverage of the F1 in Schools project, Team 7th Gear had an amazing time at the world finals in Abu Dhabi. A great experience, the team came 30th out of 33 teams and were the youngest entry.

The team has gained a lot of experience from the event and will introduce the use of rapid prototyping technology; this should arrive at St Christopher’s by January and be ready for the 2013 campaign.

The top 16 cars were divided by a range of two hundredths of a second in their final race times. The quality and standard of the competition has grown over the years since the introduction in 2005, and technology plays a huge role in the final outcome.

Our target is to raise the standard from 300 points to at least 600 - that would get the students into the top 10 in the world.

Thank you for your kind support. It has been a fantastic event and members of Team 7th Gear has had an experience they will never forget.

Martin Plunkett, Director of F1 in Schools, St Christopher’s School.

Editor’s note: Team 7th Gear was comprised of five 13-year-old students from St Christopher’s School in Isa Town - team leader Shawn Amirthan, manufacturing engineer Anish Vishwakoti, business manager Hussain Mattar, design engineer Daniel Horler and graphic designer Dominic Harris. BIC chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa invited available team members to the Bahrain International Circuit prior to their departure for the UAE capital, pictured above.

BAHRAIN RFC is this year joining in the worldwide celebration of the popular men’s health charity campaign, Movember.

First established in Australia and New Zealand in 2004, the Movember Foundation has been organising charity events to raise money for causes such as prostate cancer and depression, all based around the growing of moustaches or ‘mos’ for the duration of the month of November.

Bahrain RFC members are invited to join us in growing their ‘mos’ for Movember 2012.

All those taking part are invited to set up a page at www.movember.com and join the Bahrain RFC ‘team’. Alternatively, they can pick up a sponsorship form from the club reception and all collected funds will then be sent directly from the club to the foundation at the end of the month.

The club’s Movember efforts are being kindly sponsored by locally-based human resource consultants Heston International, who have kicked off the fund-raising efforts with a donation of BD1,000.

Heston are also putting up a prize of flights-for-two to Dubai for the top money-raiser and a prize of a dinner-for-two for the best ‘mo’, which will be decided during the campaign’s signature event on November 23.

The event will also feature the removal of some of the club’s best-known and longest-standing facial hair, namely that belonging to Messrs Phillips and Burton.

To make a donation, join the campaign or simply find out more information, please visit the Bahrain RFC reception or contact communications@bahrainrfc.com

On the pitch, meanwhile, the Bahrain RFC first XV take on Doha this coming Friday in the winner-takes-all final round of the Gulf Conference. Both sides have already secured qualification for the Gulf Top Six competition after Christmas thanks to wins over fellow rivals Muscat and Kuwait but it is yet to be confirmed who will win the tournament outright.

Doha are currently on top of the standings by virtue of their win in the return fixture in round one but the Bahrain boys have built up some serious momentum in the intervening weeks and will be out to dish out a dose of revenge on Friday.

Crucial to that, of course, will be the backing of the unrivalled support of the home crowd and so members and guests are encouraged to turn out in force for the 4pm kick-off.
Sam Wilson, Sports Co-ordinator, Bahrain RFC.
