Arnold Schwarzenegger, pictured right, is set to reprise his role as Conan the Barbarian 30 years later Ö he said he would be back!

The Austrian actor, now 65, will star in his first Hollywood role since his term as governor of California came to an end in January 2011.

The original film starred a young Schwarzenegger which shot him straight to fame in 1982. He then starred in the sequel two years later, Conan The Destroyer.

Producer Fredrik Malmberg said: "The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make.

"It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle."

He will once again take up the role of the sword-swinging action hero for the new movie, following a series of other projects that included releasing his autobiography, entitled Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life, and opening a global policy think-tank in his name at the University of Southern California.

"I always loved the Conan character and I’m honoured to be asked to step into the role once again," Schwarzenegger said.
