St Andrew’s Day is just around the corner, and to gear up for the festivities, Alosra supermarkets have stocked its shelves with leading Scottish food and drink companies.

With the feast day approaching on November 30, and the export of Scottish produce to Bahrain in 2011 increasing by 20 per cent, the grocery chain is hosting a range of internationally-recognised brands representing the best of Scottish quality goods in stands in its outlets at Saar and Amwaj until November 27.

The initiative was brokered by Scottish Development International (SDI), building on its work with both overseas and Scottish-based companies and organisations to help develop international trade to and from Scotland with Bahrain and the Middle East.

SDI chief executive Anne MacColl said:  “It is the quality of Scottish food and drink that sets it apart from the rest, in terms of taste, flavour and provenance. This, combined with competitive pricing, is helping us to drive sales globally, both to consumers purchasing Scottish goods in supermarkets and to the hospitality industry buying it wholesale.

“Here in Bahrain, it’s clear that the appetite for Scottish food and drink remains very strong, as consumers are attracted by the luxury appeal of our Scottish produce, and the rich heritage behind some of our brands.”

Scottish companies taking part include: Taste of Arran, Mackies, Summer Isle, McSweens, Dean’s of Huntly, Shortbread House of Edinburgh, Tunnocks, Lo Salt, Highland Spring, AG Barr, Nairn’s Oatcakes, Simply Add Chilli, Stoats, Lazy Day Foods and Kencryst.
