When Stan met Kim ... kind of

I held a copy of the GulfWeekly front page hoping cute Kim Kardashian would sign it so that I could proudly display it on my wall of fame in the office, writes Stan Szecowka.

She would have been in exalted company too, framed alongside front and back pages featuring the likes of Ivana Trump, Bernie Ecclestone, Krazy Kevin and Tim Henman.

I spotted a gap in the red carpet walkway and manoeuvred into place so that she couldn’t help but see my headline DATE WITH KIM as she was marched in my direction by her security guards towards the stage.

No sooner had our eyes met, I was bundled to the ground unceremoniously by three stampeding and over-excited schoolboys running at full pelt trying to get a glimpse of the beauty’s backside.

I lifted myself up off the floor, dazed and despairing. It was all so different a few days earlier when I had picked up my press pass from The Walk as workmen put the finishing touches to the red carpet walkway I had just landed my own posterior on.

Ryan, the photogragher, and I, were the mall’s only customers and we sauntered over to the Millions of Milkshakes outlet to sample a Kim Kardashian Shake with strawberries, bananas and whipped cream.

There was a choice. I could also have sampled a Miley Cyrus Shake with cookie dough and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or the Lindsay Lohan Shake with mixed berries.

I went for a small-sized Kim priced BD2.200. Some might describe it as sweet, sickly and expensive, whereas others might refer to it as a guilty pleasure, ironically the very same accolade the Keeping Up with the Kardashians TV show received at the US People’s Choice Awards.

I was happy simply to take the weight off my feet and look at Kim’s rather cute face on the wall.

I can’t for the life of me understand why the brand chose a little mall in East Riffa rather than the bustling Bahrain City Centre, for example, to open up a branch in the kingdom. The Walk, however, has received plenty of exposure from Kim’s appearance and will slowly grow in popularity over the coming months and there’s always the dream of bumping into the celebrity on her family vacation to the island. I just hope those boys are in school at the time.
