Two and a Half Men was once the most watched TV sit-com in America but its fall from grace continues to spiral as yet another cast member has slammed the show, leading to insinuations the show is ‘cursed’, writes May Al Mousawi.
Actor Angus T Jones who plays Jack, the ‘half’ in Two and a Half Men, has apparently grown out of the small-screen role. He found religion and publicly told the world, just how he felt about the show after being on it for 10 years, since the age of nine.
In a video, which has since gone viral, made for the Christian group Forerunner Chronicles, he said that Jake ‘means nothing’ and ‘is a non-existent character’. He said: “If you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I’m on Two and a Half Men, and I don’t want to be on it … Please stop watching it; stop filling your head with filth. Please.”
He also suggested that what people watch on TV is brainwashing them.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Charlie Sheen, who was infamously sacked from the show last year following his own public meltdown, said: “It is radically clear to me that the show is cursed.”
I don’t see what the uproar is about; since the show’s been Sheen-less since March it has been absolute rubbish. But then again, if I were a 19-year-old being paid $300,000 an episode, I wouldn’t complain. It looks like another case of an unappreciative young man who has just committed career suicide.
The episode in which actor Ashton Kutcher replaced Sheen, clocked in 29 million viewers. I was one of them, but then again I only tuned in to see Sheen’s character get killed off, as I’m guessing most loyal viewers did the same, as the ratings dropped to an average of 14 million weeks later.
Jones cautioned viewers about ‘the enemy’ and said: “I didn’t want to contribute to the enemy’s plan. You cannot be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that. I’m not OK with what I’m learning, what the Bible says and being on that television show.”
However, perhaps the most disturbing thing about the video is the man who sits beside the young actor throughout. He has been identified as Christopher Hudson who has an archive of YouTube videos suggesting rapper Jay Z is part of a Satanic plot, that US President Barack Obama’s plans are comparable to Hitler and that New York City is on the verge of cannibalism … maybe the one being brainwashed is Jones … not the viewers?
However, despite all this, Jones is not quitting the show and apologised publically days later. He said he ‘never intended’ for the remarks to reflect disrespect of his colleagues and a lack of appreciation of the extraordinary opportunity of which he has been blessed’.
Two and a Half Men airs Thursdays to Mondays at 10am, 3pm and 7pm on OSN Comedy.
