Viva Bahrain recently launched its VIVA Media Challenge campaign, inviting members of the press to partake in thrilling themed competitions throughout the year.
The Saudi telecom giants jump-started the initiative with a friendly race held at the VIVA Karting Track. The relay-style event attracted 15 teams with each consisting of three drivers representing each media outlet.
VIVA Bahrain CCO Andrew Hanna said: 'As we draw curtains on another successful year for VIVA Bahrain, we would like to thank our media partners for the continuous support they have extended to us this year.
'We truly appreciate their dedication and recognise the valuable role they have played in building a brighter future for Bahrain.
'We are delighted to receive such great participation from various media outlets that put on an exciting and enjoyable motor racing event. We hope to continue to organise fun initiatives like these that will allow us to effectively engage with the media and give them a chance to experience our partnerships with national and international sporting organisations such as the VIVA Karting Track.'
GulfWeekly’s talented Editor Stan Szecowka along with strappy sidekicks Gopal Nambiar and Charlie Holding wore VIVA’s purple tracksuits proudly, ready to zoom around the karting track in Sakhir aiming for a spot on the podium - alas, it was not even close!
The team’s head honcho Stan was ready to lead the squad to victory but was met with an obstacle - his head was too big for the helmet. Since the two Mays were nowhere to be found, as usual, newbie Bambi Manalese took the reins and also had the fastest lap for the squad proving that women too can drive.
A glove mishap, a faulty visor and a few more technicalities resulted in a loss for the beloved weekly paper. The ruling is in and it’s been decided that the girls will be heading the racing team in the next karting challenge. They have already started practising and will take no prisoners.
FACT Magazine’s Tony Sidgwick, Rashid Bindaina and Syed Raihman were crowned the victors of the event.
MaxMedia’s Tariq Rashdan, Sangeeth Muralitharan and Sayed Abed secured the second spot. Sister paper the Gulf Daily News took third thanks to the racing skills of Ahmed Al Omari and Ashwin Bhaangi.
