BAPCO’S Awali Golf Club (AGC) is on course for a series of significant celebrations and is hoping to attract sponsors for the major events taking place as part of a 10-day AGC Festival of Golf from March 28 to April 6.

The club, boasting the oldest golf course in the Middle East, is celebrating its 75th anniversary and will be hosting the 50th anniversary Bahrain Open Golf Championship and the 25th anniversary Bahrain Ladies Open Golf Championship all in the same season.

“The festival is a significant event for Bahrain, for BAPCO and for the Awali Golf Club,” said club captain Andy (Ace) McAlpine. “We anticipate golfers participating from Bahrain, from around the Gulf and from overseas.

“Indeed we have already received commitments from overseas golfers, including professional and amateur golfers, former AGC members, including committee members, and past Open champions.”

The AGC Festival of Golf, held under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, will commence with the Ladies Open and conclude with a gala dinner following the Bahrain Open.

Platinum sponsorship of the festival is priced at BD10,000 and includes a variety of benefits including complimentary entries into the competitions, publicity and a table for 10 guests at the dinner. BD5,000 and BD3,000 gold and silver sponsorship packages are also available as well as a selection of other partnership plans.

This year players will be competing for a BD1,500 first prize in the Bahrain Open, won three consecutive times by last year’s champion Andrew Marshall, and a variety of other awards and gifts. The competition is likely to attract 120 players and around 80 are set to play in the Ladies Open.
