FANTASTIC Tamara Kawash grabbed four goals as Arsenal Yellow beat Desert Divas 6-2, with Rama Salem and Lamees Saqqa also spotting home one apiece, in a rivetting encounter in the GulfWeekly-sponsored Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League. Divas replied through Anna Hansen and Zein Jallad.
Arsenal Yellow coach John Mackenzie was thrilled by the performance as two key players were missing though injury. “The squad stepped up and played very well and are really starting to gel together,” he said. “We sit second in the table and are hoping to keep the pressure on Eastern Flames who are currently in top spot.”
In the other match, a strengthened U16 National Team, with Phoebe Licence and Hessa Zayani back despite being heavily involved with the senior women’s national team, tore apart last season’s champions Arsenal Junior Gunners.
Having lost the experience of Sam Turner, currently in the UK, and coach Deena Rahman, who is now training daily with the national team, Junior Gunners faced an uphill battle from the start.
The National Team won 7-0 with hat-trick heroine Phoebe on top form and goals by Catherine Martin, Aya Bseisu and two from Amira Sowar. This was the U16 team’s first win of the season and the players were obviously delighted with the result.
