Gulf Weekly High-flying experience

Going on holiday can be a turbulent experience with all the stress of packing, airport security checks and, last but not least, being crammed into your ‘cattle-class’ seat, writes Charlie Holding.

However, it needn’t be a hassle if you’re flying with Qatar Airways, who recently unveiled a new technically-enhanced business-class seat for its 747 aircraft and put it on display at Bahrain City Centre.

As shoppers walked past with their bags full the display model must have looked very inviting, and since I only make a modest journalist’s salary, I’m not one to waste an opportunity to sample the high life.

As I sat down and strapped in … yes, there were seat belts, I was amazed by the generous amount of legroom available to stretch out and lay down, very handy during those long-haul flights to the UK.

The chair itself boasts a number of features including a massage button, to relieve some of the tension of travelling. As if that wasn’t enough, the seat also electronically reclines flat into a bed so if you’re not happy with the inflight entertainment, you can catch some shut eye.

There is also an individual reading lamp, tray table, storage area in front and one nestled inside of the armrest.

As I sampled this luxurious sky throne, I was so comfortable and relaxed I almost forgot where I was. When I eventually got my head out of the clouds, I realised I wasn’t actually flying Qatar Airways but the next time I am, I want to be sitting in this seat.
