The British School of Bahrain (BSB) Academy of Performing Arts and MASK ended their successful run of performances of the hit Broadway musical, West Side Story on Saturday evening with a finale to end all finales!

The best of Bahrain were showcased in this performance as students represented five schools, including the BSB, as well as 15 cultural heritages.

Thank you to all the performers, actors, dancers and musicians for all of your hard work and dedication, which culminated in the production of six wonderful performances.
The backstage crew also needs to be congratulated on a job well done for the seamless scene changes.

The BSB would particularly like to thank Lydia Martin, musical director, Danny Furness, director, Hayley Furness, assistant director, Lloyd Parks, producer, Sowsan Hassan, production secretary and Louise Chapman, choreographer for their direction and production of a wonderful stage show, well done to you all!

Thank you to our terrific audiences as well.

Again, thanks to all our sponsors for their support, Alosra, House of Uniform, Union Group, Room 2 Rock and Aquacool.

Here’s to next year!

Dot Loveland,
BSB acting head  of school.

I totally agree with Youth Talk columnist Megan Cox regarding the unacceptable impact of the use of tear gas (issue 13) – it does not discriminate.

It’s been used so many times and has never delivered any results, so why continue to use it? Innocent bystanders continue to pay the price.

Sharaf, by email.

Following the success of MASK’s recent production of Bernstein’s West Side Story, the Manama Singers has invited MASK/Academy of Performing Arts and the British School of Bahrain to perform in their forthcoming concert entitled The Romance of France, to be held in the prestigious Sofitel Hotel and Spa on June 21.

Our older students have been invited to perform a number of items with the Manama Singers including a rousing medley from the famous Les Miserables hit show which will feature student soloists. We will be auditioning for new talent for this opportunity on Wednesday, April 10. Contact 17610943 to sign up for an audition if you are aged 12-18 years.

The Romance of France will also feature a children’s chorus who will be singing in Bizet’s Carmen and auditions will be held on Saturday, April 13 for this fabulous opportunity. This will be open to boys up to age 12 and girls aged 7-14.

Call us on 17610943 to sign up for an audition.

And, just in case you thought MASK had forgotten about those younger starlets, we have formed a new group MASK Little Stars, which is open to students from 5-8 years who will be putting on a production towards the end of June. Call 17610943 for more information.

Following the huge success of our 2013 Calendar ‘Pets Stars’ the BSPCA is aiming to produce a calendar for 2014 and the theme is ‘Pets And Their Kids’.

We are looking for child stars to be featured in the calendar.

We don’t have much time, so please send your favourite picture of your child or children with their pets to yvonneboocock@yahoo.co.uk by April 19.

We will choose 12 candidates from the entries we receive and notify the winners by the end of the month.

The pictures will be professionally taken for the calendar in early May and the calendar will go on sale towards the end of the year.

All proceeds will go to the operational costs of running the new Animal Welfare Centre in Askar.

If anybody would like to sponsor or part-sponsor the calendar and have their company logo and details appear in the calendar, please register your interest at the above email address.

The BSPCA is a charity run solely on the generosity of the public, please continue to support us in our work to assist all animals in need and immortalise your child and pets in print at the same time!

Joyce Hughes, BSPCA.
