PROMISING young golfers from around the GCC region will be taking part in the annual Bahrain Junior Open being held at the Royal Golf Club (RGC) on May 3 and 4, in association with Bahrain Golf Association.

Unfortunately, Qatar national junior team player Ali Abdulla Al Bishei will not be present to defend his title of overall 2012 Junior Open champion, but competitors from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India and Singapore will be facing some stiff competition from the RGC’s very strong junior section.

“Growing the game of golf at a grass roots level has always been of key importance to everyone at the Royal Golf Club,” said DJ Flanders, RGC’s general manager. “Our team works closely with the Bahrain Golf Association to create opportunities for promising Bahraini youngsters and we also have a high number of expatriate junior members.

“Giving these kids the opportunity to play competitively is very important and the Bahrain Junior Open is our key junior event of the year.”

Youngsters competing in the Under-21 and Under-16 categories will play 36 holes over two days on the Montgomerie championship course while the Under-12s will play 18 holes on the Wee Monty par 3 course, 9 holes on day one and a final 9 holes on day two.

There are just a few places left in the tournament. To sign up, call 17750777 or email golfevents@theroyalgolfclub.com

l For a limited time the RGC is offering 15-months of membership for the price of 12 to those taking out an individual or corporate membership.
