Gulf Weekly Awards joy for youngsters

The Bahrain Tennis Academy (BTA) held its 10th annual end of season awards ceremony at the Dilmun Club, Saar with BTA director Dan presenting seven ‘Player of the Year’ awards for overall best players in each level and 11 awards for outstanding achievements in various skills categories. 

The star of the event was Owen Verbeek who collected the ‘Player of the Year’ award for competitive players in addition to topping five of the 11 skills categories. It was a family affair with younger brother Miles earning the ‘Player of the Year’ award for the Y1-2 level and sister Boudica receiving the same award for the reception level.

Award winners:
Best forehand – Owen Verbeek; best backhand – Emily Smith; best volleys – Mohammed Abed; best smash – Diptanshu Chakravarty; best serve – Saad Mohamed; best footwork – Owen Verbeek; most complete player – Owen Verbeek; most improved player – Mohammed Abed; best student – Owen Verbeek; most dedicated player – Owen Verbeek; best sportsmanship – Mukulita Chakravarty.

KG – Lara Nabil; Rec – Boudica Verbeek; Y1-2 – Miles Verbeek; Y3-6 – Ai Akiyama; Competitive – Owen Verbeek; Adult – Rebecca Combs; Teen Cardio Tennis – Isaac Ranero.
