Gulf Weekly Write to the editor

The British School of Bahrain (BSB) is very proud to report that over half of the Year 6 students qualified to sit a prestigious level 6 SATs maths paper.

UK guidelines recommend that an average student should attain a level 4 by the end of Year 6. Students need to be a secure level 5 in order to meet the criteria and 55 out of 96 BSB students made the grade!

This is a significant percentage of BSB students performing well above the national level expected by UK recommendation.

A whopping 57 per cent of Y6 BSB students sat the two part exam last week compared with one per cent average in UK schools that pass the paper.

The BSB believes this phenomenal success is due to starting specialised teaching at Year 5 rather than waiting until students enter the Senior School, and is testament to the dedication, excellence and high expectations of the talented BSB teachers.

Congratulations to all BSB talented mathematicians. Watch this space for the BSB pass rate.

Lisa Atkins, Head of Juniors, BSB.

July 5 will witness the return of Bahrain’s biggest and most popular rock concert, Sanitarium.

The concert started back in 2010 and was an instant success. It has drawn more than 21 different acts from all around the Gulf region since its formation.

This year, the concert will be held in the Shaikh Isa Cultural Hall in Adlya and will feature seven local acts.

Arguably the most anticipated performances from this year’s concert will be the return of the popular Re-Alive and Morgue, the two acts used to be the most recognisable bands in Bahrain’s music scene back at the start of the decade and both decided to play a one-off reunion show at this year’s event.

Other acts taking part include the new and very talented Mazaj, a band which tries to break musical boundaries by mixing eastern and western concepts.

The list of acts also includes progressive rockers InsideOut, formed in 2010, whose work has received recognition and radio play ever since.

Saudi Arabia’s music scene is also represented in this year’s concert. Enraged Managed beat four other bands in order to win the auditions and take their part in the concert.

Also on show are up-and-coming Berserk, as well as Sanitarium’s very own band The Experiment, which is an all-star band made up from musicians from around the music scene in Bahrain
