The Elite Resort & Spa Muharraq is preparing to bask in the Ramadan spirit with the launch of its popular Al Noor Tent, boasting a bountiful buffet complimented by an Arabian Nights theme.

More than 600 diners last week feasted on a spread of Mediterranean and Arabic cuisine while being serenaded by Arabic music and entertained by Moroccan tea servers as well as a henna artist.

As for the décor, the marvelous marquee, which is located by the pool, continues to dazzle with its crystal chandeliers, Arabesque lanterns, customised silk fabrics and carpeting, baskets filled with dates alongside offerings of Arabic tea and coffee.

Anurag Bajaj, the resort’s general manager, said: “We know that expectations are high.

“This year, we are concentrating more on the cuisine and presentation. The quantity and quality of the food is even a couple of notches higher than last year’s.

“We want our guests to have the ability to feast on all five senses. Our aim is to give them a genuine treat where the food looks, smells and tastes great.

“We are bringing in specific ingredients from abroad and more materials for our presentation.

“We staged this taste test event because everyone is already getting into the Ramadan spirit and we want to show them what they will be getting during the holy month. We have a loyal following which we truly appreciate.”

The buffet features a large salad section with Bahraini, Lebanese, Jordanian and other mezze’s including dolma, spinach fatayer (pastry) and hummus.

The appetisers and main course include rice, lamb, grilled vegetables and seafood dishes. The meat ghouzi is popular and the tender lamb and rice remains a firm favourite amongst guests.

The desserts and juice section includes a mango smoothie, a refreshing summer drink. A selection of éclairs and cakes provide a fitting conclusion.

For meat-lovers, a grill station is located by the pool and Mr Bajaj says it is bigger and better than ever before.

He said: “The cooking station proved such a success last year that we made a bigger spread this time around to include shawarma, sajj and tandoori cuts. Also, people can dine by the pool if they prefer.”

The tent will feature a band and other activities for families to enjoy.

The Al Noor Tent will feature Iftar from sunset until 8.30pm, priced at BD6.9++ for adults and 50 per cent off for children. The Ghabga will start at 8.30pm and run until 2am, priced at BD12.9++ for adults and half price for children between the ages of six to 12 and free for toddlers below five years old.

Sohour (early morning meal to prepare for the fast) starts at 2am until the morning prayer. It costs BD3.9++ for adults and children.

To celebrate the holy month, the Royal Golf Club’s head chef, Theo Botha, has added an Arabic flavour to the menu in Prego Restaurant.

Guests will be able to enjoy a number of traditional Egyptian and Turkish delicacies baked in the restaurant’s wood stone oven as well as some popular Arabic desserts.

During Ramadan, Prego will be open from sunset until midnight.

The club is also offering a range of function rooms, suitable for groups of 15 guests and upwards, as well as unrivalled scenic views, and a range of menu choices cooked by its award-winning culinary team for corporate or family ghabga events this Ramadan.
