Gulf Weekly Payback for President’s team

The President v Captain team match play, the traditional competition-season opening event, was held last Friday at the Awali Golf Club.

The afternoon kicked off with the Captain’s Drive-In, where drink-mats were purchased for charity and placed on the fairway where it was thought that Captain Steve Brown’s first drive would come to rest. Steve’s amazing drive was most closely predicted by Murray Brown who took the prize.

Being gracious as always, Murray magnanimously donated his winnings back to the Captain’s Charity.
In the competition, president Alan Goulden was unfortunately unable to play but he nominated vice-captain Jan McAlpine as his representative.

This time, the President’s team achieved payback for their double defeat in last season’s President v Captain and Captain v President team match plays and came out on top with a narrow victory to the tune of 6 to 5.

With the club competition season now officially open, players are getting ready for the next event, a Club singles Stapleford competition on Saturday.
