Gulf Weekly Young performers take to the stage

THIS week the Bahrain Young Performers Festival (BYPF) began its instrumental and vocal heats at the British School of Bahrain in Hamala.

The competitive festival which was inaugurated in 2012 invites students in music, dance and drama to compete in four skill levels.

This year the BYPF team has introduced a preparatory class for students in the early stages of their performing lives. This class will feature young dancers, actors and musicians who may be performing for the first time on stage.

For more seasoned performers there are Novice, Intermediate and Advanced classes in each instrumental discipline (piano, strings, brass, woodwind, percussion) as well as vocal, dance and speech and drama classes.

This year’s competition has attracted more than 300 competitors from schools across the island including The British School of Bahrain, St Christopher’s School, Bahrain Bayan, New Millennium School, Nadeen International School, Al Raja School, Japanese School, French School and Sacred Heart School.

Many specialist schools of music, dance and drama including the BSB Academy of Performing Arts, Bahrain Ballet Centre, Victoria Dance, Lamda Bahrain, Life in Music and Bahrain Music Institute are also entering students in support of the development of the arts in Bahrain.

Following these classes, which will take place until tomorrow, the winners of each heat except Preparatory will go forward to perform in the Grand Final tomorrow evening at the BSB Hall.

The Grand Final will feature some of the finest young performers in Bahrain and is an event not to be missed, organisers say.

Entry will be BD2 on the door. All are welcome to attend.
