YOU can’t stay disappointed for long when the Sing Out Singers, fronted by Claire and Laura, aka ‘The Sisters’, are on stage.

The dishy duo know how to throw a party, in whatever guise they are booked to appear, and certainly entertained folk at the British Club with a dazzling array of 1980s singing and dancing, supported by a tight band of musicians.

I first caught them in action a couple of years ago in an Abba tribute act entertaining the Irish expat community at the poolside of a Manama hotel and the girls proved to be as hard-working as ever.

Little has changed, apart from the outfits and tunes rolled out over two well-choreographed sets, and after a fine buffet and a number of cut-price beverages, the Brits proved they could party with the best of them.

Even the fact that the good lady wife, Kathryn, thought she was going to see Swing Out Sister, the British sophisti-pop outfit best known worldwide for the 1987 song Breakout (apparently they were not available as they are playing a gig in San Francisco, US tomorrow), she was soon boogie-ing on down close to the well-lit stage.

Shame they didn’t sing Breakout, she commented on the way home, but you can’t please all the people, all the time.

Claire and Laura kept the audience happy and even brought club members on stage to support their routines. I can almost forgive them the occasional Cockney cackle which proved irritating at times.

The food, the supporting DJ, the company and the atmosphere was spot on and conjures up a fair amount of confidence in the committee’s choice of entertainment planned for this autumn.
