People have been using make-up and cosmetics for over 12,000 years. It all started in Egypt with the use of oils, eyeliners and other natural pigments for healing and beauty enhancement.
Human expression and the desire for perfection drive the continued use of various powders, crèmes and scents. This primitive need stimulated my own interest while I was in Seef Mall gathering information about a new beauty line called The Balm cosmetics.
It carries a complete line of make-up, skin care and nail polish. With a ‘beauty in five minutes’ philosophy, quick fixes for a wide range of beauty wants and needs are offered.
I really liked the ‘Rockstar’ face palette cleverly named ‘Balm Jovi’ with eye shadows named ‘Metal-ica’, Iron Maid-in and Lead Zeppelin.
The palette contains 12 rockin’ shadows, one blush powder, a highlighter and two shades of creamy lip/cheek colours names ‘Milly and Vanilly’ all for only BD24 that are sure to make a groupie out of you!
In 2003, Marissa Shipman, founder of the American company The Balm, realised there were a few simple products she needed for her beauty regime. After buying several books about cosmetics, she decided to make them herself in her kitchen. “I went make-up crazy. I incorporated the company, worked out a budget, hired a chemist and designed a website,” she explained.
She began integrating anti-aging ingredients, triple-milled pigments, fabulous scents and then the Balm was born. Now, 10 years later The Balm is currently sold in 56 countries worldwide.
The Balm is now available in Bahrain through Aysha Al Jowder after opening for business on November 5 in Seef Mall.
If you have not had a chance yet, be sure to check out Yara Beauty Lounge (YBL) in Amwaj.
It is one of the very few beauty lounges carrying the Kérastase hair products range here in Bahrain, along with a wide selection of other beauty services.
If you are in need of a natural looking tan without being exposed to harmful UV rays try the quick and easy service that leaves you with a streak-free, natural fading tan that will last up to two weeks. You can even extend it by using the St Tropez homecare products. YBL also has its own Moroccan steam-room that provides a soothing scrub which leaves you feeling fresh and restored.
This brings me to my ‘Deal of the Week’ for GulfWeekly readers. With any blow dry you book with YBL they will offer you a free hot oil hair treatment.
Just mention you saw this in FashionWeekly when you arrival at the salon. They will also give an extra discount to all RCSI, US military or airline crew staff.
They look forward to seeing you gorgeous ladies … but hurry, this offer is only valid until November 27.
Yara Jameel Salman started her beauty lounge in 2011 at the tender age of 17, which made her the youngest female entrepreneur in Bahrain. Yara attributes her success to the inspiration she received from her father and her enthusiasm for beauty.
