The X-Mini speaker reminds me of an ex-girlfriend, small but very loud and probably quite annoying if don’t like the tune it’s belting out, writes Charlie Holding.

The new mono speaker UNO and stereo speakers MAX represent an upgraded standard of portable sound.

The UNO device fits comfortably in the palm of your hand when compressed, but it opens up to give a fuller base sound. It’s available in five colours: blue, green, orange, purple and gunmetal.

Plug it into your MP3 player, phone or laptop and you’re in business.

I like to stream TV shows on my laptop and sometimes the sound quality is pretty poor. Usually this results in me turning of my air conditioning and sitting closer to the screen trying to lip-read.

However, with the X-Mini the sound drastically improved and I was able to catch up with my favourite shows without sitting in a sweatbox.

The X-Mini MAX is essentially the same thing but comes as a pair, which can be linked to deliver a richer sound. Each speaker measures 3.22 by 2.13 inches and weighs 2.8 ounces.

As far as portable speakers go, this is a small range with a big personality.

Prices start from BD13.900.
