MORE than 3,500 residents came together to raise awareness about diabetes during the 5th walkathon organised by the Al Rashid Group at the Dohat Arad Park in Muharraq.

The Beat Diabetes walk was supported by Bahrain Diabetic Society, the Ministry of Health and Muharraq Governorate. Other partners in the endeavour included the General Medical Company, Royal Bahrain Hospital and American Mission Hospital.

Dignitaries like Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa (Minister of Defence), Dr Sadiq Al Shehabi (Minister of Health), Brigadier Sultan bin Ali Al Sulaiti (Deputy Governor, Muharraq Governorate) joined the supporters in the 3km walk sporting blue ‘Beat Diabetes’ T-shirts.

To reinforce the group’s core message ‘Beat Diabetes – Take the Test’, free blood glucose testing booths will be set up in Oasis Centre East Riffa and Muharraq regularly.  Please watch the press for more details.

The overwhelming turnout that the walkathon draws year after year is truly heartwarming. We are thankful to all the people who continue to support us in our fight against diabetes.

Through the annual walkathons, the blood glucose tests and other activities that we conduct round the year, we encourage people to lead active and balanced lives. Living with diabetes is a daily struggle but can be managed by following a disciplined lifestyle.

The condition can lead to serious consequences if not detected and controlled at an early stage. Hence, awareness is extremely crucial. It is really inspiring to see the dedication of the Al Rashid Group’s staff members and the support they receive from Bahrain residents to spread the message about diabetes.

Vikas Attri, Territory Head of Al Rashid Group.
