Founders of luxury perfumes brand, M Micallef, recently showcased their bottle designs and intoxicating scents at Al Hawaj in Bahrain City Centre.
Artist Martine Micallef and her husband Geoffrey Nejman, the marque’s chief executive officer, held a meet and greet with customers at the perfume and cosmetic outlet, to introduce their fragrances and paint designs on the bottles to complement each individual’s persona.
The happily-married couple of 20 years have been working with Al Hawaj for the past 14 years.
Mr Nejman said: “We gained respectability in the market 17 years ago for our special and personalised perfumes.
“We offer perfumes with personality. We were the first to start mixing oud with other pure, natural ingredients.
“Customers in the Middle East really enjoy our perfumes. We always had a good response to our recipes and for us the Middle East is an important market.”
The brand originated in Grasse in France in 1996, which according to Mrs Micallef is the capital of the perfumery business.
The dynamic duo has almost 900 retail outlets in 54 countries. Mr Nejman, together with Jean Claude Astier, a renowned ‘nose’, has developed exceptional fragrances whilst Mrs Micallef with her artistic flair designed and developed a range of beautifully-decorated bottles.
Mrs Micallef said: “In the Middle East, a lot of people collect perfumes and they really appreciate our brand because of its exclusivity.
“Sometimes we design for special events such as weddings and corporate parties.”
The bejewelled collection, produced and decorated by hand became an iconic work of art and has attracted perfume connoisseurs from all over the world.
During the three-hour event, Mrs Micallef sat with shoppers and painted their initials, flowers or other designs on their newly-purchased perfume which can cost BD84 for 100ml eau de parfum.
