Fiamma Restaurant at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa is offering Italian food lovers a chance to learn how to make Italian dishes with Chef Stefano. This interactive cooking class features one-on-one time with the chef every first Saturday of the month from 10am to noon at BD18 net per person, inclusive of lunch and soft beverages. Classes are for six to 10 people.

Bahrain Science Centre is currently showcasing a scale model replica of the Al-Jazari’s ‘Elephant Water Clock’, manufactured by MTE Studios in the foyer area of the centre. The Shaikh Ebrahim Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research is holding a Sleeping Beauty exhibition of installation and embroideries by artist Christine Khonji in Bin Matar House until January 4. The Bin Matar House is open Saturday to Thursday from 9am-1pm and 4pm-7pm.

The third Sunday of January will feature a Belgian mussel’s promotion with chef Paul Vanlacker’s recipes at the Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain. Start with a garden salad followed by a mussels priced at BD15++ per person.

The GREAT British Week will be held from January 15-22 with a number of activities such as lunches, dinners and musical performances.

Three anchor activities comprise the programme of events organised by the British Embassy, the BBBF and the British Council. The first of these is the ‘Knowledge’ conference supported by Brunel and Ahlia universities. The event, which is open to the general public, will highlight the strong and longstanding relationship between Bahraini and British universities.

The historical link to fast moving technology, especially in Formula One, is the backdrop to the week’s second event, the ‘Advanced Engineering & Innovation’ conference to be held at the Bahrain International Circuit, and staged on the final day of the Bahrain International Airshow. The event, sponsored by the EDB will see more than 200 delegates and exhibitors participate with support coming from leading British companies such as Rolls Royce (Aero), BAE Systems and McLaren Automotive. Seminars featuring McLaren Automotive, McLaren Applied Technologies and Rolls Royce will encourage business-to-business and networking opportunities while exhibits from many leading technology companies will underpin the value of the event to the business community.

The final event of the week will be a celebration dinner showcasing other British exports; notably fashion and cooking. The week will be brought to an end with a montage of hit songs from Britain’s celebrated music history.

Al A’ali Shopping Complex is hosting an Art Fest from January 15 to 18 in association with Mind Storm Media which aims to bring together talent from across the country. Artists are invited to showcase their talent as well as sell their work in various disciplines such as painting, sculpting, fashion designing, music, photography, calligraphy, pottery and so on. The Art Fest also aims to raise funds through the sale of art by the various artists and donate up to 20 per cent of the proceeds to various charitable causes. The 2014 Autumn Fair will be staged at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre from January 21-29.

A photographic exhibition of dramatic imagery and intimate moment’s exhibition, called Inside India, will be held at the Bin Mattar House in Muharraq on January 21 at 7pm. The images are by four Bahrain-based photographers including Haya AlKhalifa, Rasha Yousif, Saji Antony and Stephanie Ravel. It will run until February 20. The exhibition will coincide with India’s National Day celebrations. Opening times are Saturday to Thursday from 9am-1pm and 4-7pm.
