Retail giants Lulu Hypermarket has ended its year on a high note after being awarded a reputable certification for its quality food, hygiene and taste./p>

The superstore is the first in the kingdom to receive the ISO 22000-2005, a food safety management standard, by Bureau Veritas, a global company in testing, inspection and certification services.

This certification is globally used by organisations directly or indirectly involved in the food chain. It also includes retailers such as hypermarkets who run their own kitchens and frozen and fresh food sections.

Lulu Hypermarket’s regional director, JuzerT Rupawala, said: “The certification is part of a continuous process to ensure the very highest standards for our food chain, from storage to preparation, display and sale.

ISO is such a huge recognition internationally. There is a proper audit team that comes here to do the inspection. It’s quite a lengthy process and the award isn’t just given to anyone.”

The certification recognises Lulu for its quality control in the food sector and also for implementing affiliated food industry management systems, compliance with regulatory and statutory and customer requirements.

Mr Rupawala said: “The food segment is a very big part of our business and we have always been particular about ensuring that we deliver the best standards to our customers. We already had a food safety and hygiene system in place.

We will continue surprising our customers with more delights, not just events.

This is one of our highlights for 2013 andwe will have many more to come for 2014.

As a hypermarket we aim to be the shopping destination for consumers. We want to thank our customers for having faith and confidence in our standards and we will continue maintaining them.”

There are currently four outlets in Bahrain including in Hidd, in Riffa, Ramli Malland Dana Mall.
