The GREAT British Week, linked to the forthcoming Bahrain Air Show 2014, will be held from January 15-22 with a number of activities including lunches, dinners and musical performances. The campaign will kick off with an invite-only reception at the British Embassy onJanuary 12 followed by an invite-only British Bahrain Business Forum (BBBF)lunch at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa on January 15. TheBig Red London Bus will be making its rounds across the island throughout theweek.

Also on January 15, a ‘Knowledge’conference, supported by Brunel and Ahlia universities, will be hosted at the Intercontinental Regency Hotel. The event, which is open to the general public,will highlight the strong and long standing relationship between Bahraini and British universities.

On January 16, the Royal PhilharmonicOrchestra will perform at the Bahrain National Theatre at 9pm and ticket prices will be announced by the Ministry of Culture shortly.

The Jaguar Land Rover Golf Tournament, another invitation-only event, will take place on January 17 at the Royal GolfClub from 7am to 2pm.

Hotels, restaurants and schools are also getting into the spirit of the event. The Intercontinental Regency Hotel ishosting a cocktail evening on January 17 at 6pm and is open to the public.

The Movenpick Hotel has a Great British Week brunch on January 17 from 12.30pm to 4pm.

The Domain Hotel is hosting a high tea from 5pm to 8pm on January 18 and Block 338 restaurant is featuring The Great 338 Garden Fest on the same night from 5pm to 11pm.

Trader Vic’s is also hosting a GREAT British Week of traditional fare and all things British. The restaurant willserve up home-style country meals like Truffle Beef Pate, Chicken and Mushroom Pie, and Bread & Butter pudding, to name a few. A band will also play from6pm to 10pm to add British ambience to the venue. 

St Christopher’s Junior School will have aFish & Chips Supper on January 20 from 5pm to 8pm. The Bahrain ScienceCentre will have a Kid’s Science Event on January 23 and 24 open to the public.

A Great British Week celebration dinnerwill be held at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa on January22 and is by invite-only.

St Christopher’s Cathedral will stage acelebration of Great British Music on January 23 at 6pm and it’s open to thepublic.

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) has started hosting the third round of the 2013/2014 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship and it will run until Friday. The event includes the Street FWDRWD, the Street V8, the Super Street RWD, the Super Street V8, the Outlaw FWD,the Outlaw RWD, the Outlaw 10.5, Competition 4.5 and Pro Mod categories. Itwill also feature the Street Bike, the Super Street Bike and the Pro Bike categories. Testing today is at 7pm and qualifiers are on tomorrow at 6pm.Friday is race day and it starts at 7pm. Round four will be held from March 25to 28. The fifth and final round takes place from April 22 to 25.

To showcase the history of Dilmun, theMinistry of Culture has organised an exhibit at the Bahrain National Museum to commemorate its 25th anniversary. Those magnificent men in their flying machines will be thrilling spectators at the third Bahrain International Airshow on January 16-18 and the Sakhir Airbase.

Five-hour visual spectaculars in the skywill be staged featuring aerobatic display teams, military aircraft, historic and modern.

Confirmed attractions include The Royal Jordanian Falcons, Al Fursan Aerobatic Team, The SWIP Team, The Red Devils & Saudi Falcons Parachute Team, Breitling Wingwalkers, a UAE Mirage 2000, a UAE- F16, Saudi Hawks, Russian Knights, DHL’s mighty 757 carrier and a Gulf Air A330, alongside a British Spitfire.

A public showground will also offer avariety of on-the-ground attractions and activities to entertain adults and children alike.

Furthermore, there’ll be live entertainmentwith a musical stage show. In the morning there will be a children’s band with games and prizes for winners. In the evening, local act Salsa Cubana will be entertaining the crowd along with Salsa Dancers. DJ Outlaw will also be at onstage at the show.
