Taking up the challenge

THE fifth BREEF Show Jumping competition of the season took place on Saturday and, as normal, there were five classes, with the main event being the final Grand Prix.

However, there was plenty of excitement in all the other classes, thanks to the technically-designed course and its imposing fences in each category.

Class One, a one round with jump-off challenge, started the day with fences between 80-95cm. With over a dozen riders in the fray, it was Ahmed Essa astride Tutu that took home first prize, followed in both runner-up and third position by Aimee Keen riding Rio and Onyx, respectively.

The second of the junior classes was a two-phase affair. Those competitors who went clear over the first phase, moved immediately into a timed jump-off.

This time it was the turn of Hussain Mohammed Dadulla to come to the fore with his mount Murheeb. With the fences now raised to 95-105cm the pair claimed first position, followed by Kate Addison riding her mount for the class West Wind. Third place went to Charlotte Gunby on Magnum.

The first of the adult contests was a huge class attracting some 40 contestants. It, too, was two-phase event with fences at 90-100cm. After an extremely competitive round claiming first place on the podium was Sadiq Abbas with his mount Keshbol. Taking second place was Muslim Ali with Emiley and in third position it was Ali A Rasool astride Chilli.

Moving onto the penultimate class of the day, another one with numerous entries, it went into a speed class with fences standing between 110-120cm. Taking first place in an amazing time of 54.93secs was Ahmed Mansoor with BDF Awal, and taking second position in this fast-paced class was Ali Al Tahoo riding Lavino. Basel Al Dossary claimed third place with BDF Heavenly Star.

The final class of the day, the Grand Prix, saw imposing fences reaching over 135cm.

This event was one round with a timed jump-off. Again, this was a big class, and after an intense first round with some fantastic riding, heading into the jump-off were five fabulous horses and riders.
 
Basel Al Dossary took home the coveted trophy riding BDF Noor. They clinched victory over extremely stiff competition from second-placed Muslim Ali riding an excellent round on Emiley. Following in third position was Sami Ghazwan with his lovely mare Fairooz.

This brilliant event enjoyed by everyone has left enthusiasts waiting anxiously for the sixth show jumping event scheduled for March 1.

WEEKEND EVENTS
* The Dilmun Riding Stables is holding an equestrian event starting on Friday with Dressage. The first class on the agenda is a Working Equitation. It is always an extremely popular event for adults and juniors alike. Following on will be a further two dressage tests, both British Dressage, the first Preliminary 7, and then Novice 21 which is open to both adults and juniors.

* A show jumping competition will be held on Saturday which will start with the hugely popular Treasure Hunt, and will be followed by two mixed show jumping classes. The first will see fences 80-90cm and the second 90-100cm. All classes will be charged BD3. School horses are available for hire at a cost of BD5.
