Gulf Weekly Ironing out the issue of domestic housework

One of the best things about living in the Middle East is the convenience. There is literally a service for everything, someone to shop for your groceries, clean your flat or even deliver a bar of chocolate to your doorstep at 3am.

Yes, expats are certainly spoiled for choice (and spoiled in general). Just before I moved to Bahrain, I swore to myself that I would remember my working class roots and continue to do things for myself.

That was five years ago and now, I’m embarrassed to say, I haven’t ironed a shirt myself since I got here ... well, until recently.

Ironing your clothes can be a tricky and time-consuming chore. With so many fabric types like: silk, linen, cotton and polyester, even the most experiences professionals can burn their favourite clothes.

In today’s modern world where everything is ‘smart’, Philips is offering a PerfectCare system designed to offer a quicker, more efficient ironing experience.

Featuring new OptimalTemp technology with a smart chip inside that keeps your iron at one perfect temperature, this range allows you to just plug in and start ironing – there aren’t any temperature controls.

It really is as simple as adding water and turning it on. A flashing blue light indicates it is warming up and once it stops, you’re ready to rock. One temperature takes care of all your fabrics … handy for me since I always manage to burn my toast.

Although my skills were admittedly rusty, the iron glided effortlessly through my favourite yellow shirt without me having to worry about burning any holes.

It’s lightweight and easy to control, in fact it was so easy I even had time to sing ‘Iron Man, Iron Man, does whatever an iron can’ as I worked.

And, if you’re feeling especially lazy, there is even a steamer option too, but I only discovered this after I finished, sod’s law really.

Within minutes, I was done and, the result, an impeccably ironed shirt with not a crease in sight, mum would be proud.

In fact, I’m now so handy with the thing, I think my dry cleaner may have lost a customer … sorry mate!

The range available across the Middle East includes the Perfect Care Xpress steam iron and a PerfectCare steam generator that are available at all leading hypermarkets and electronic retailers. The iron I used costs under BD65.
