I often see amateur golfers making the error of not aligning themselves correctly with their target.
From my experience, a lot of amateurs think their feet and shoulders should be aligned at the target. This is untrue and can cause your ball to go off line and also allow swing faults to develop.
For a right handed golfer, the feet and shoulders need to be aiming left of the target so that they are parallel to the target line. A good way to remember this is to imagine train track lines going down from your ball to the target. The farthest rail, being the out rail, is your target line, which is where your clubface needs to be aligned. The nearest rail, the inner track, needs to be aligning to your feet and shoulders.
A good way to practice this on the driving range is to use alignment sticks or clubs to help visualise the train tracks.
