EURO Motors, the BMW Group importer in Bahrain, unveiled the new 2 Series Coupé during a special event at the Royal Golf Club.
Replacing the BMW 1 Series Coupé, the new model aims to offer an authentic driving experience plus a range of driver assistance systems and ConnectedDrive infotainment features.
Aesthetics matter and the new model is both longer and wider than its predecessor, giving it increased space on the inside and a sleek look on the outside.
The modified contours of the headlight units narrow at their inner extremes, while a standard accent strip – or, if the optional bi-xenon lights are fitted, an LED accent light – cuts across the top of the hallmark BMW twin circular lights. Dramatic lines run down the bonnet towards the wide kidney grille, giving the front end an aggressive look.
That look is an indication of what this rear-wheel drive model is undoubtedly capable of on the road, thanks to the two engine variants with BMW TwinPower technology. Topping the range is the M235i Coupe, a BMW M Performance model with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine developing 326bhp that goes from a standing start to 100kmph in 4.8 seconds.
Meanwhile, the BMW 220i Coupé has a four-cylinder engine that develops 184bhp. It can reach a top speed of 230kmph and makes the dash from 0-100kmph in a respectable 7.0 seconds.
There are a number of infotainment features available through the marque’s ConnectedDrive functionality. Special driving features include a rain sensor with automatic headlight activation, Adaptive Headlights including cornering light, variable headlight distribution and adaptive headlight range control for city and motorway driving.
This model can also be equipped with anti-dazzle High Beam Assistant, Cruise Control, Park Assistant and the innovative Driving Assistant option, which combines the camera-based Lane Departure Warning and Collision Warning systems.
Paul Yates, general manager of Euro Motors, said: “As the BMW brand continues to grow in the kingdom we are committed to bringing vehicles to market that match our customers’ appetite for premium automobiles.
“The BMW 2 Series Coupé will be a leader in the premium compact segment offering an unparalleled level of premium aesthetics and BMW’s trademark sheer driving pleasure.”
There is also an available M Sport package, which has been developed specially for the model. This option comprises bespoke suspension tuning, optional 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design, aerodynamically optimised body elements, plus a special design for the BMW kidney grille and an exhaust tailpipe embellisher in high-gloss chrome.
