Royal Golf Club gents vice-captain Badea Esbai enjoyed a comfortable win in the third Volvo World Golf Challenge Bahrain Qualifier with a stableford score of 39 points.


Barry Hobday took the runners-up spot with 37 points on countback and Petter Nyberg was third, also on 37 points. Nearest the pin side contests on holes 2 and 16 were won by Claus Hansen and Stewart Tankard, respectively, while a hole in one prize of a Volvo S60, sponsored by Kanoo Vehicle Leasing and AXA Insurance, went unclaimed on hole 16.
A full field of 120 golfers took part in the competition which was played on the Royal Golf Club’s challenging Mongomerie championship course in near perfect weather conditions.
There are three more qualification rounds left of the Volvo World Golf Challenge, all of which will take place at the Royal Golf Club. The eight qualifiers from each round will go on to compete in a final round in December and the winners will fly off to the five-day World Final in January in an exotic location. The champion will have the opportunity to play alongside European Tour professionals in an amateur-pro team competition.
