First sentences are generally easy, however, it’s usually all downhill after you’ve formulated them. Yet, when it comes to my 48th and final piece for GulfWeekly I am attempting and failing to deflect an awkward goodbye. Cue the uncharacteristic sentiment.

It has been an absolute pleasure writing for this column and firstly I would like to thank the Editor for giving me the opportunity to rant at strangers in a socially-acceptable manner. Equally, I would like to thank those few or many strangers that have endured these rants, or even turned the page. Don’t worry, I don’t know who you are. You hope.  And, I extend my wishes of good luck towards the student taking over this editorial space.

For those of you who may be wondering where I shall vanish off to once my exams are over. If all goes to plan with my grades (inshallah) I shall be studying English literature and drama at The University of East Anglia in Norwich, and even though the audition was the strangest experience of my life, I have never looked forward to anything more. Yet, I shall return to Bahrain during the holidays and hopefully regain some pigmentation to my skin, after months deprived of the sunlight I am used to.
