Passion meets fashion this week at the Saks Fifth Avenue ‘pop up shop’ in Bahrain City Centre. It will be debuting some of the most popular regional designers up until May 25. Expect to see the work of Madiya Al Sharqi, Mochi and Dina Khalifé who are showcasing spectacular handpicked pieces from their collections.
I fell in love with Ayah Tabari, the designer of Mochi, because every season she travels to a new destination to explore traditional embroidery and design work. She is a trend setter and is very popular with the younger generation.
For her Thailand collection on display she visited various villages to source fabrics and had pieces hand-crafted by the local artisans. The colours are fun, bright and full of life and she is famous for her crop-top and skirt pairing.
Her recent work is from Hungary and is breath-taking. Follow her on Instagram @allthingsmochi to see the latest collection. The white off-the-shoulder peasant dress is gorgeous with bright red, blue, yellow and green embroidered flower and lace details. Insta-festival attire for the gypsy in you.
Before I left Bahrain City Centre I stepped into Coast, which is always my fail-safe for any type of dress. It always carries the current colour palettes in trend, style and fabrics in various lengths and sizes.
For BD100 I saw its ‘cherry blossom’ watermark graphic print maxi dress with a relaxed cut that breathed effortless. With the elastic in the waist it will help accentuate any figure. This dress will help you make a statement entrance at any summer gathering.
For BD80 you can pick up Coast’s ‘Marley’ short chiffon dress in this season’s ‘emerald green’. This colour looks amazing on a darker completion and this piece is playful and just pops over your head for easy wear.
Other deals I’m privy to: Piazza Italia: Mid-season sale Bershka: Mid-season sale Promod: Mid-season sale Gymboree: Buy two get one free Spend BD35 and get a chance to win a trip for two to Disneyland, Paris.
Helveco is celebrating its diamond jubilee by re-launching its brand. In Bahrain the Swiss watchmaker has a long standing partnership with Al Hawaj.
This year the goal is to bring luxury closer to people with affordable pricing and future projects include a possible fragrance.
A perfect anniversary or celebration gift would be one of its luxury box sets that include cufflinks, a watch and a pen all with Helveco curves and motifs showcasing style and class.
A second Citizen ‘shop-in-shop’ has opened in Yaquby Store, Manama, following in the footsteps of the first in Seef Mall.
Two more are set to open later this year as the brand’s positioning is aggressively upgraded and expanded across the Bahrain Market.
Banan Yaquby, CEO of Yaquby Stores, right, said: “We will be inviting customers to meet our Citizen brand ambassadors so they can interact with them and experience this luxury brand.”
This exclusive event could feature top sporting legends such as Victoria Azarenka, Grand Slam Tennis Champion and Kevin Pietersen, the former England cricketer and star of the Indian Premier League.
After Ramadan, Yaquby will be launching an online portal that has taken around 24 months to complete. Further details will be announced shortly.
