Gulf Weekly Always chew your food well

Today’s tip is very important but many of us forget it, or pretend to forget it.
When you eat, it is very important to chew food very well.

Why? Because the digestive process starts in the mouth so we must make sure our food gets mixed well with the enzymes in our saliva. But also, because food that is not chewed properly goes into our digestive tract but our body doesn’t know what to do with it, so it goes on to cause indigestion and bloating.

The process of chewing lets the brain know that there is food coming so the stomach starts to secrete the juices necessary for digesting the food that’s coming. And the great thing is that the more you chew, the more your brain registers satiety so it stops you from overeating and bingeing.

They say you have to chew food 20 times before swallowing it, but I say chew it until you feel that it has become like toothpaste. Don’t swallow it until you feel all its parts have dissolved.

If you notice, natural unprocessed food needs more chewing (like salads and wholegrains for example). This is an indication that they will be better for our digestion so eat more of them.

There are no teeth in the stomach; your digestion will depend on your chewing!
