Bahraini designer Kubra Al-Qaseer has been the leading name in traditional jalabiyas and haute couture fashion since 1987 and boasts a huge following in the region, attracting regular orders from stylish ladies and royalty alike, writes Camille Jones.
GulfWeekly met up with Kubra to gather details about her grand sale, which started three days before Ramadan and will carry on throughout the holy month.
The annual discount delight allows shoppers to treat themselves to a luxurious collection at amazing prices, with one purchase, for example, priced BD40 compared to the usual BD400 retail mark-up. What a bargain!
Kubra said: “I like to be charitable. I’m always travelling and, through experience, I can tell from the customer what she wants. There are different needs depending on the region and budget.”
When asked about the inspiration for her latest Ramadan collection, she said: “This year it is very different because it is very hot in July and for that reason I have used different materials like soft cotton and lighter fabrics.”
One popular trend is for ladies to choose a transparent feminine version of the man’s ‘bisht’ (traditional Arabic male cloak worn over a thobe) leaving an elegant look and a sneak peak at the designer dress or jellabiya worn underneath.
A traditionalist at heart, Kubra releases more than 25 new designs each year from her headquarters in East Riffa. Her designs have been featured in fashion shows around the globe, being exhibited alongside the likes of John Paul Gaultier and Chanel in London.
