CHARACTER breakfasts at theme park destinations can cost families an arm and a leg as anyone who has booked one over the summer holidays will testify.

But the children can squeal with delight and enjoy all the fun of cuddling their favourite cartoon characters at Al Areen Palace & Spa’s Saffron restaurant for a relatively reasonable price.

And that’s not all, there might be some high-flying entertainment thrown in for good measure too!

The regular Friday character breakfasts have proved so popular with guests and visitors at the luxury desert destination that they have been introduced on a Saturday morning too and make for a delightful family weekend bonding experience amidst the breathtaking hotel’s tranquil and relaxing ambiance.

Diners can enjoy a delightful a la carte menu or a hearty breakfast buffet that boasts an endless assortment of hot and cold items, seasonal fruits and freshly-baked pastries.

The little ones in particular will absolutely love the special Kids Corner, consisting of made-to-order omelets, waffles shaped into special characters, delicious crepes and pancakes, plus a nice-but-naughty candy selection and even marshmallows with chocolate sauce as a special treat.

The children in attendance during the Szecowka family’s Saturday morning breakfast visit were buzzing with sideline activities such as face-painting, arts and crafts, bouncy castles alongside the special meet-and-greet with a variety of favourite on-screen characters, life-sized mascots energising the morning and bringing lots of fun, hugs and picture perfect moments.

On show were TV favourites Spongebob Squarepants and Barney plus Minion, from the Despicable Me movies, who spellbound the little-ones and high-fived my older group and the adults.

You’ve really got to get into the spirit of things before tucking into the glorious gourmet offering. I may have mentioned the sweet treats already but the fare was fabulous with fresh fruits, yogurt, oatmeal, fresh pineapple, peach and melon slices for the health conscious.

For a more filling affair, the chicken sausages, slices of beef bacon and hash-browns proved to be a plate-filling combination and there was a variety of traditional Arabic fare keeping the weekend hotel guests from all over the Gulf happy too.

An appearance by an African troupe of gymnasts outside, popping in from their regular gig at the neighbouring Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park was a treat indeed.

They were amazing close-up and their mesmerising muscle-bound routines of strength, movement and precision power thrilled the families of all ages and they made a conscious effort to include the children.

Their interaction and amazing abilities made a perfect start to the day even better.

In addition, character breakfast guests are also allowed to enjoy the hotel’s amazing outdoor swimming pool free of charge … a great chance to soak up the sun and cool off in luxurious surrounds.

Hosted from 8.30am to 11.30am, this fun-filled breakfast experience is available to all in-house and walk-in guests from  BD12++ for adults, 50 per cent off for kids seven years old and below and free for those under two.
