British photographer Andrew Weaver is hoping to show Bahrain from a new angle with his latest book of never-before-seen aerial images of the kingdom.

Above Two Seas was created after the overwhelming success of his first publication Between Two Seas, which celebrated modern Bahrain in pictures, as featured in GulfWeekly. More than 8,000 copies were sold within 12 weeks of its launch two years ago.

This time around, the 49-year-old owner and managing director of Picture Arabia has captured the beauty of Bahrain high in the sky from a helicopter.

The father-of-two, from Adliya, said: “The response to my previous book was amazing and that encouraged me to do another. Plus, such an aerial book had never been done before so it seemed like a challenge.

“Most of the landscapes and views will never have been seen before making it quite unique.

“I think there is also a shortage of good photography books on Bahrain, so there is a good market wanting to buy them.

“Apart from anything else, it’s a fun thing to do to fly around the kingdom, leaning out of helicopters snapping, and seeing places from a unique perspective.”

The book, which is divided into four chapters, entitled Above the Skyline, Over the Sea, Beyond the City and Out of the Sand, feature Bahrain’s cityscapes, architecture, boats and fishing, off shore islands, desert landscapes, wildlife, heritage sites, the coastline and villages.

Once again, it is likely to prove attractive to ministries and other government organisations to help promote Bahrain at exhibitions and conferences overseas.

Mr Weaver said: “Many ministries and leading private companies often buy my books to distribute at conferences and exhibitions, or to give as corporate gifts.

“I have printed 9,000 copies as an initial print run, and expect to do another print run in early 2015.”

The book launch coincides with a range of promotional events including book signings and talks at across the island.

Again, his offering is published in three sizes, aiming to meet a variety of budgets and because not everyone wants to buy a large coffee table book.

Above Two Seas comes as a large hardback priced BD25, medium hardback at BD14 and as a small softback priced BD4. It is being sold in all main bookstores including Bookcase, Jashanmal Bookshop, Virgin Megastore, Words Bookstore Café and Bahrain Duty Free.

Mr Weaver will soon be focusing on two more book projects going to press in the coming months; one about sunsets in Bahrain and the other featuring historic Muharraq. He also plans to publish a book of black and whites images of Bahrain.
