THE chefs at the Westin Bahrain City Centre Hotel are reeling in seafood lovers every Thursday evening with a selection of refreshingly delicious catches.
It is said that one portion of seafood eaten weekly could halve the chances of suffering from a heart attack, since it contains Omega-3, a key fatty acid accredited by health experts for keeping the old ticker beating sweetly.
Prawns, crabs, squid and octopus are also packed with vitamins, minerals and fish oils just as much as salmon or cod.
The hotel and resorts brand, designed, it says, with its guests’ well-being in mind from its wholesome ‘SuperFoodsRx’ meals to its ‘Heavenly Bed and Bath’ initiatives, is dishing out the finest of seafood offerings at the stylish Saveur restaurant.
Saveur Seafood Night may have only started a few weeks ago but it is already proving popular with fish fanatics on the island, thanks to French executive sous chef, Cyril Jeannot and his creative kitchen team.
Chef Cyril aims to continue taking diners on an underwater culinary adventure with a buffet full of seafood delights influenced from various parts of the world.
He explained: “The Westin brand is all about ‘well-being’ and we deliver that through our dishes by using quality ingredients that are both locally bought and from abroad.
“I am working with a great team of cooks to develop Saveur’s identity and highlight each country’s speciality under one roof.
“I want guests to come into Saveur, know what they are getting and have an international experience. When you go to an Italian restaurant you get pasta, and at a Japanese restaurant you get sushi … at Saveur’s Seafood Night we offer both.”
And a lot more besides, as diners are not only offered a large buffet but the open-cooking stations invite them to interact with the chefs allowing them to customise dishes and even be tempted to try something new.
The salad buffet alone is something to admire. There are a number of shooters including guacamole king crab, cauliflower smoked salmon and tomato gazpachos with prawn. They are complimented by delicious rose water scallops and capsicum ketchup – a sweet and savoury concoction, mini-lobsters, king prawns, sea bass, mussels and French oysters.
Chef Cyril also used his Caribbean and New Orleans culinary knowledge to create a fantastic appetiser known as ‘sea bass croquet’. It features sea bass mixed with crab and is deep fried in a crispy and melt-in-your-mouth fashion and tastes amazingly good.
The mains include a Spanish Paella, seafood chowder soup, potato gratin, spinach and seafood tagine located nearby the live noodle and pasta station which offers guests the choice of seafood combined with a range of zesty Asian flavours or tasty Italian finishings.
Diners are also tempted by the buttery salmon prawn mousse, the puréed carrot caraway, sautéed vegetables and mussels with cheese and meat bits.
Just when you think there can’t be anymore, there is still a sushi bar and a grilling station allowing customers to choose from an assortment of fish pieces. There are also crispy deep fried prawns on offer.
One special dish to sample is the parrotfish which came grilled to perfection and tasted like steak.
Having had their fill of the finest seafood, guests can head to the heavenly cheese buffet for a choice of Munster or Brie.
The dessert table features apple crumble, chocolate banana tart and coconut agar agar. There is also baklava, carrot cake, a chocolate fountain and jars of marshmallow, gummy bears, jellybeans and other candy, a big kid’s dream come true.
The Saveur Seafood Night left me happy as a clam…which reminds me…I must try one or two next time.
The unlimited buffet, open from 7pm to 11pm, is priced at BD20 net, including selected soft drinks and water and BD25 net, including selected beverages. It’s half-priced for children aged six to 12 and kids under six eat free.
