Gulf Weekly REVIEW: The Weather Girls – Ibrida lounge, Ramee Grand Hotel & Spa

The kingdom’s movers and shakers were taken back in time to the days of big hair, headbands and leg warmers as dance and pop icons, The Weather Girls showered them with 80s and 90s dance floor classics.

The venue’s Flashback Night featured Dorrey Lyles and Dynelle Rhodes, the daughter of original Weather Girl Izora Armstead and the dynamic duo brought a full house to its feet with disco classics.

Ibrida proved to be an ideal backdrop for the Big Mamas, who are known in the music biz as Two Tons o’ Fun. The venue was decorated with streamers, bright lights, giant rubik cubes and stereo boom boxes.

Even the waiters and waitresses joined in the fun, dressed up in high-waist shorts, brightly-coloured tights and shirts along with parachute pants that pop singers such as MC Hammer and Madonna would have been proud of.

After the resident band had warmed up the audience, suddenly a soulful voice echoed through the venue and from a puff of smoke, like magic, The Weather Girls appeared. The disco queens belted out one high note after the other and the crowd went crazy when they delivered The Pointer Sisters’ I’m so Excited and raised the roof for the act’s signature tune It’s Raining Men.

It was an electrifying night and while we can never go back in time, thanks to Ibrida and The Weather Girls…we went pretty darn close.
